After a rigorous and lengthy review process involving many designers, the CostaBaja Resort & Marina selected Gary Player Design to create a world-class, 18-hole golf course that would match the splendor of its setting on the Sea of Cortez. A very highly-regarded design firm, Gary Player Design is known for creating golf courses that are built in harmony with the natural topography and environment, and thus shares CostaBaja's commitment to preserving and protecting the surrounding ecosystem.

The first golf course of its kind in Mexico

The golf course at CostaBaja will be the first Gary Player Signature course ever to be built in Mexico. Opening in the summer of 2010, this unique course will feature panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez and an innovative design that complements the unique desert-by-the-sea landscape. The course will ensure the preservation of the surrounding delicate ecosystem and blend seamlessly with CostaBaja's unique desert-by-the-sea landscape. Panoramic water views will define the lush greenway, while its innovative design will challenge the most accomplished golfer while providing a magnificent and breath-taking backdrop.

Biography

Gary Player is known all over the world as a champion and is regarded as one of the greatest players in golf history. With a career of achievement that spans over five decades, Gary Player has won 163 tournaments and is one of only five golfers to have won all four of golf's modern Majors at any time during their career. This achievement, often referred to as a Career Grand Slam, is a feat he shares with a select few, including Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. Gary Player is known for being a strong-willed and tough competitor who keeps a cool head under pressure.

Gary Player is renowned as much for his dedication to the principles of excellence as he is for his golfing accomplishments. He is recognized worldwide as an uncompromising perfectionist who settles for nothing but the best. He is rated by most of his fellow professionals as the best bunker player in the history of the game and is often referred to as "determined." Player joined the Senior's circuit in 1985 and completed what he calls the "Senior Slam: the British Senior Open, and US Senior Players Championship, the US PGA Seniors and US Seniors Open. Most recently, the "man in black" or "Black Knight" completed his 51st Master's Tournament, beating the previous record held by Arnold Palmer, making Gary Player the golfer who has now participated in the most Masters Tournaments in golf history.
